SFDF Pose & Alexandra Kathlyn Accessories

SFDF
After a much needed break from technology, working and creating, I am back to blogging. I figured I should probably share why I have been MIA the past month and a bit {I only touched on it briefly before}.

The first weekend in June was an absolute whirlwind for me, a good one though, full of fashion and friends. The Saskatoon Fashion and Design Festival took place this whole weekend. For those of you who have never heard Saskatoon Fashion and Design Festival (SFDF), it is a volunteer based fashion organization committed to developing Saskatchewan's fashion culture and community.

I had heard of SFDF last fall and didn't know much about it but I had a friend who participated in the pop-up shop in November (check out The Sparrow's Keep).  Since then, I have been keeping tabs on what the SFDF group was up to.  In the winter there was a call for vendors for the Spring/Summer Festival.  A few people mentioned to me that I should apply but I was nervous to do so.

The last tradeshow I went to was quite brutal and I didn't really want to repeat that experience. But, with a little bit of encouragement, I applied for the SFDF Pose Marketplace. A little while later, I got the email saying I was accepted! I actually panicked and became so overwhelmed that I didn't know if I should be excited or terrified. All this self-doubt flooded into my head then I kicked it to the curb and got to work.

For about 5 weeks, I neglected my loving and terribly supportive Fiancé, to make sure I had enough pieces made for the event. I had some items already made but I wanted to make sure I had enough variety. As I sat and worked, I came up new ideas and re-worked some of my original pieces. As the big day approached, I felt more confident in my work and my collection I had so far.

Finally the day arrived. I had everything ready to go, displays packed, business cards finished, jewelry finished. My Sister was an absolute gem and came with me to set up and kept me relaxed. I was surprisingly nervous driving to the venue. Mainly because I was worried no one would show up... As soon as I set up, all fears left and I felt in my element.

We were located down by the Saskatoon Riverlanding - it was a beautiful (windy) day and so many people came out! I loved hearing the feedback from people and seeing people walk away with big smiles on their faces and new accessories.

Thank you to all of my family and friends who came out to visit - whether you bought something or not, it meant (still means) the world to me!  And a big Thank You to the Saskatoon Fashion and Design Festival for putting on an amazing event and allowing me to be a part of it!  I had an absolute blast and met so many wonderful people.  I appreciate all the support I received and continue to receive... without all of you, I wouldn't be where I am at.

So next steps -- create an actual website for my jewelry (stay tuned for that!) and work towards this becoming more than just a hobby!  If there is any piece that you have seen and you'd like it for yourself, I now accept MasterCard and Visa! Send me a message and we can figure out the details. Be sure to like my Facebook page for coupon codes and limited edition items too!

For the love of all things sparkly,

Alex

Where Have You Been?

Shame on me!  It has been 3 weeks since I've last posted and I'm trying to figure out why I let this slip away from me. I didn't even have the excuse of not knowing what to post, since I was taking part of the Blog Everyday in May Challenge. Challenge FAILED!

The weather has been a major factor in my lack of motivation. With it being so beautiful outside, I feel like I should be outside and enjoying the sunshine! Sitting inside, at the computer seems wrong :)

So where have I been??  A little update on life:

  • For those that don't know, I have been given a lay off notice and will be done at my one position May 31st. I have already started with a new company, so it's okay!
  • I've been working 3 jobs this month, leaving me with very little spare time. I'm also planning 3 events for an organization that I volunteer with.
  • Our wedding is slowly coming together. We've ordered the invites and now I'm just trying to finalize my decorations. Still seems like there's lot to do with only 6 months to go!  It's exciting and scary at how quickly time goes by.
  • And the most exciting thing that has happened in the last month is....I've been accepted into the Saskatoon Fashion and Design Festival on June 2nd! Some of you may or may not have already heard about it but I'm incredibly excited that I've been given the opportunity to showcase my jewelry at such a fun event. Come on out to Saskatoon Riverlanding, say hi and check out local designers -- there is a great lineup!

So that's a little bit about what I've been up to. After the SFDF Pose Marketplace, I will have more time to commit to posting.  Hope you all have been having a great Spring so far!

Fit and Healthy {BEDM}

Today's Topic: Health & Fitness

I was not looking forward to this topic when I first saw it. I will openly and honestly admit that I don't like working out and I really like McDonalds. So I wasn't really sure what to write about.

I figured I should start exercising seeing as it's getting close to beach season but also the countdown to my wedding is on. I would definitely like to be in better shape by November than what I am in now. I know I am petite but I am trying to be healthier in general and that means exercising more.

My sister and I recently started a squat challenge and then added a plank/ab challenge to the mix. The first day started with a set of squats then the next day the number increases. It's the same idea with the plank/ab challenge. I find that when I finished doing my squats and my heart rate is a little higher, I want to keep exercising. Crazy how that works!

Now that it's nicer weather I'm planning on doing more biking and going for walks... Maybe turn walks into jogs. I'm hoping this will just be the beginning of a healthier lifestyle. The hardest part is getting the motivation to wake up a bit earlier or getting off the couch!

What do you do to get (or stay) motivated? Any tips would help!

5 Favorite Blogs {BEDM}

Today's Topic

I have many favourite blogs that I regularly read. Some for inspiration and others just because they're amusing or informative.  There are many different types I follow too.. From financial freedom blogs to web design to fitness blogs. So I am going to share with you some of my favourite reads and be sure to check them out too and see what I mean!

Inherited Jeans - Steff of Inherited Jeans is probably one of my favourite bloggers. As Steff says she is 'a proud Canadian, lover of sushi and Starbucks and does fashion on a budget'! That's my kind of girl! Steff has amazing sense of style and her looks are totally re-creatable. I love how many of her looks are created with Joe Fresh, H&M but also higher end brands. I would also call Steff a blog/twitter/instagram friend. I always enjoy what she will post day to day and see what she comes up with next!

Made By Girl - Jen Ramos is an NYC blogger, entrepreneur and artist. Her blog is full of all things beautiful - art, decor, style and food. I originally came across her blog through Pinterest when I found some iPhone cases that were super chic! From there I found it was more than just her online store but there was also a blog. I love seeing room tours of her NYC home and I would LOVE an office like hers. It's beautiful! So go on, go check out Made by Girl and don't forget to look at her online store too!

And Then We Saved - I have no idea how I ran across this blog but I am SO glad I did. Anna paid off close to 24k in debt in only 15 months. Her blog is all about:  How to do a Spending Fast®, saving & making more money. After just reading her bio, I knew I'd found a gem. I'm all about living a debt-free life, saving and making money. She has so many tips and advice to get towards a debt-free life or if you are debt-free, how to save and make money. It's a great blog to check out!

I Spy DIY - Who doesn't love a great DIY blog?! I go onto this blog when I need inspiration or ideas for a new project. There are a ton of fabulous jewelry, clothing, accessories and home do-it-yourself projects that are all fairly simple to do. It's fun going through my closet to see what stuff I can re-purpose after reading her blog.

Hello Fashion - This is the blog that goes along with the online boutique called Ily Couture. I am obsessed with Ily and all the great pieces (clothing, jewelry and purses) and I LOVE that shipping to Canada isn't an arm and a leg.  Hello Fashion is full of style posts using the hot items from the Ily Couture website and there some great giveaways on the blog too.

What are some of your favourite blogs to read -- leave the links in the comments below!
